Songkran Festival .
Songkran Festival, Bangkok is the Thai New Year which starts every year on April 13 and continues for three days. The Songkran Festival in Bangkok is a festival of celebration and ushering of new year in the traditional way apart from the two other new year which are already celebrated in Bangkok like the New year on 1 st January and also the Chinese New Year.
13 th April is called Maha Songkran Day which is to mark the end of the old year. !4 th April is Wan Nao and 15 th April is called Wan Thaloeng Sok which ushers in the new year.
The people who may have come from the villages return back to their homes and Bangkok somewhat becomes less crowded this time. Family , community is accorded much respect this time and the people offer alms to monks,listen to sermons and take part in monk bathing.
Songkran means move or change place, and sun the driving force of life actually changes position in the zodiac. Religious ceremonies are held with much fervor and then people take part in celebrations and enjoyment . Songkran Festival, Bangkok is also called a Water Festival as people have the belief that water cleanses all the bad luck.
In the Songkran Festival in Bangkok people engage in throwing water over each other and even the high ranking officials indulge in Sanuk or fun.
